Annual award for a historically excluded or underrepresented group who wish to pursue a graduate degree in Microbiology. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student who will not graduate before the completion date of the summer program. Candidate must have taken introductory courses in Biology, Chemistry, and preferably Microbiology prior to submission of application. Selection is based on academic achievement, achievement with previous research projects, commitment to research, career goals as a Research Scientist, personal motivation to participate in this program, willingness to conduct summer research, and involvement in activities that serve the needs of minorities and underrepresented groups. Number of awards varies.
