Annual fellowships for minority graduate students enrolled in a doctoral program in Sociology. Students must be applying to or enrolled in Sociology departments which have strong mental health research programs and/or faculty who are currently engaged in research focusing on mental health issues. Awards are designed for minority students entering a doctoral program or in the early stages of graduate programs. Selection is based on commitment to research in mental health and mental illness, academic achievement, scholarship, writing ability, research potential, financial need, and racial/ethnic minority background. Recipients must work in research or teaching on mental health and mental illness for a period of time equal to the amount of time for which funding was received beyond 12 months. An essay must be included with application packet. Number of awards may vary. Renewable.
