Annual award for a historically excluded or underrepresented group in microbiology graduate student enrolled in a Ph.D. program who has completed their graduate course work in the Microbiological Sciences. Applicant must have completed the first year of the graduate program (first year graduate students cannot apply), and be a student member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and cannot have other funding. Selection is based on academic achievement, evidence of a successful research plan, relevant career goals in the Microbiological Sciences, and involvement in activities that serve the needs of minorities and underrepresented groups. Number of awards varies. Renewable.
